Jump on Yahoo! or Google and search for people respected in your industry or sites with a simular feel to your own. It'll help you get an idea for what you want.
It's also always a good idea to have all your stuff together once you get the chance. Things like images (your logo for example), letterhead and information on your company colors and mission will be extremely helpful later down the road when the site starts to take shape.
Keep it simple. Don't try to stuff every feature that's ever caught your eye into your site. It's temping, trust us we know. We play with these toys for a living, and many are really cool but they may not all be for you or your customers. Remember that the goal of your site is to give a great experience to your visitors and have them want to come back, not bombard them with a bunch of extras that will distract them.
Put your client first. This should be the core of your site's mission. We'll help you keep incorporate this into your design and ensure your user has the best experience. If you're normal client base is not very computer literate we can keep navigation and tools simple. Work with kids?
